Today was only the second day back for students at North Hollywood High and usually the first week is the easiest. But not for members of the Newspaper Club. They were all hard at work, trying to get the Back to School Annual Issue of the newspaper. It was probably one of the biggest issue of the newspaper and this year Erika had a big part in it. She was this year Editor and she had a few ideals in mind to make the newspaper big. Most people weren't to please about the Editor- in- Chief's chose of making a sophomore an editor. It was going to be very difficult for Erika to prove herself, but she was up for a challenge. It was good that Erika was up for a challenge because today was defiantly going to be one. The Editor-in-Chief wasn't going to be here today and they had left Erika in charge of everything. She had to make sure everyone was going to doing what they were suppose to do. She had to over see everything. Which she liked doing.
Erika was currently reading a column written by Alexandra Scott. She was supposedly the best writer that the Newspaper Club had, but Erika just didn't see it. It wasn't like Erika had something against the girl she just thought that her writing kinda sucked. What she was currently reading sounded like crap. It was poorly written and was just boring. She needed to spice it up. ”Alexandra?”Erika said calling her over to her desk.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Sitting in newspaper club, Alex was glad that school was back in session. It was only the second day, but Alex was already back in the flow of things. Unlike most high school students, Alex liked school. It was summer she hated. Her mother had made her go to a dance camp for the entire summer. Talk about torture. She hated dance, which was a surprise, seeing as it was her major at the school. But she didn't choose it, her mother chose it for her. All that Alex wanted to do was write. And that's why she had joined Newspaper Club. It was something she could do at this school that had nothing to do with dancing. Also, she was a pretty good writer, at least that's what she had been told. She didn't feel she was much of a journalist, she preferred creative writing, but she was alright.
Her first assignment for the paper had been to write a story on the renovations that had taken place over the summer. How boring. But she had managed to write the article, even though she didn't think anyone would care enough to read a story about the renovations. If she hadn't written it, she wouldn't have bothered reading it herself. After turning it in, she'd sat down and started working on some other article. That is until she heard her name called by the editor. Standing up, she walked over to Erika, who was the editor of this years paper. Most people weren't too happy about it because she was a sophomore, and Alex was one of those people. She didn't think she deserved the position, and it should have given to an upper classmen. "Yes?" she said, contempt dripping from her voice as she stood at the editors desk, awaiting what she was going to say.

Erika had called Alexandra over so she could speak to her about the paper she had written. It was true that Alexandra was giving a boring task of writing about the new renovations going down at the school, but that didn't give the article any excuse for it being so boring. Most articles written are usually about stuff that no one cares about. But it was the job of the writer to make it interesting. Be it the choice of words used or style of the way it is written. Alexandra didn't really need to do that much but she needed to do something. Anything to spice it up. ”Alexandra Scott. Right? I just wanted to talk to you about your article. I'm not exactly sure what it is but somethings off about it. ”Erika said handing it back to her.
”You can just do that and hand it back to me, when your done.” Erika said trying to be a nice as possible. She could tell by the way Alexandra walked over here that she was one of the many people that weren't to pleased that Erika was the Editor. Normally Erika would just speak her mind about how she really felt about the situation. But as Editor it was Erika's job to be as professional as possible. Though she was sure she could have been a tad nicer. Whatever She thought leaning back at her desk and beginning to read all the other articles. Which were all written well.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) Wondering what the editor wanted, Alex waited for her to tell her what was up. It was odd for the editor to want to talk to her about her articles. At least that's what she figured she'd wanted to talk to her about it. She was sure she didn't just call her over to have a chat or ask her about a good restaurant or something like that. "Yes, that's me." Alex said, annoyed that she wasn't even sure who she was when she'd called her over. And then she had the nerve to tell her that there was something 'off' about her article. Taking the paper from Erika's hand, she just nodded her head.
"Yeah, sure. I'll fix it and give it back to you." Alex said, not really sure what she was going to fix. Sure, it hadn't been her best article, but it wasn't horrible. "But before I go, what exactly do you want me to fix about it? Because I don't know what you want me to change." Normally, when the editor told you to change your article, they told you why. But she hadn't, and that annoyed Alex. This was just another sign that she didn't deserve to be editor of the school paper. She didn't even know how to do the job properly. Of course it was only her second day on the job, but still, she should have known how to do it before she was chosen as editor.

So it was pretty obvious that Erika didn't know exactly what she was doing as editor and she should know what was exactly wrong with Alexandra's paper, but Erika damn sure wasn't going to admit it to not know much. Erika had just gotten this job and she was sure of it that she couldn't mess up. At least not now. If she did she would lose her position and be sent back to doing remedial things like what Alexandra was doing. Erika took the paper from Alexandra and began reading it over again. Glancing threw it she notice that the only thing she found wrong with it was that it was too long and too boring. ”I know you didn't get the most exciting topic but....”Erika took a pause looking at the article again. ”I think it needs to be revised..a lot actually.” Erika said handing the paper back to her ”The introduction was a little weak and so was the conclusion. They both need to be a whole lot stronger. If not no one will even both to read past the first sentence”. Erika stated.
”I've heard some good things about you. I mean your writing. But this article is far from good.”Erika added as she smiled at her and continued to read the other articles. ”Is there anything else. You would like to know?” She said before she got to deep into the reading of the articles.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) It was the only the second day of school, and the editor of the paper was already criticizing her writing. That was something that Alex didn't really take well, criticism, especially when it wasn't constructive. And this certainly wasn't. The editor didn't even know what was wrong with the article. There was just something 'off' about it. She knew it wasn't the best, she hadn't had much muse for writing lately, and the topic was far from being able to spark an interest in her. But she'd tried to make it exciting, but how exciting can you make automatic flushing toilets sound to high school students? Not even the best writer in the world could make that sound interesting.
The way the editor was talking made it seem like she knew everything, and Alex knew nothing. But nothing could be further from the truth. Alex had worked her butt off the past three years to be the best writer she could be, and some sophomore gets the editor position and thinks she knows it all. Well, Alex wasn't going to take that lying down. "Yeah," she said, looking at the article, "I'll fix it." When the girl smiled at her as she said she'd heard good things about her writing, it seemed more to Alex that she was making fun of her than trying to be nice. "There is something I'd like to know." Alex said, looking at the girl sitting there. "How in the world did you manage to become editor?"

What gave this no talent girl the right to question Erika's position as editor? So what if things weren't going as smoothy as Erika had planned on her first day as editor. So what if she was a sophomore? So what? It was officially Erika didn't like Alexandra at all. That simple question Alexandra had ask stomped Erika. Alexandra wasn't very kind in asking the question quietly, no she had to say it at the exact moment when, the everyone had watch. Alexandra had indeed made Erika look like a fool. Something that Erika was very use of.
“It's maybe true that I do no have very much experience in being Editor, but I assure you that I am very capable of doing my task of editor.” Erika said gritting her teeth trying not to show her angry. This girl, was ticking Erika off. Alexandra was a senior, and she obviously thought that the position should go to a senior. Probably her. Erika almost giggled. She defiantly wanted to be the editor. Especially since it was her last year here. “I know you might think that someone like, you would be better for this position, but obviously if you were, you would be the one sitting here giving out orders, not me.” Erika said with a cocky grin. Yup, from this point on Erika knew that this year the Newspaper Club was going to be fun.
